he flora shown on the stamp is an olive tree branch symbolizing peace. The first-day cover features a quotation from Chaim Weizmann, the first President of the State of Israel: "No country is given to people on a silver platter." Poet Natan Alterman used this quotation as the motto for his renowned work "The Silver Platter," which was first published in the Davar daily newspaper December 19, 1947.

The poem was written in honor of those who gave their lives in the struggle for the establishment of the State, and, in dying, constituted the "silver platter" on which the State of the Jews was indeed given.
